CMOC held public hearing on Tulpar-1 exploration well, Pearls contract area

Aktau, 23 June 2009. Caspi Meruerty Operating Company B.V. (CMOC) presented technical project description and environmental impact assessment of the Tulpar-1 exploration well in a public hearing in Aktau, Kazakhstan on 23 June 2009.

Following two exploration discoveries in Khazar-1 and Auezov-1, and successful drilling of the first appraisal well Khazar-2, the joint operator of the Pearls block plans to drill an exploration well on the Tulpar structure located in the Pearls block in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea in 2009.
Drilling of Tulpar-1 will be conducted under a zero discharge policy and continuous environmental monitoring in order to ensure minimum impact on the marine ecosystem as part of CMOC’s risk management standard and in compliance with the Environmental Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. All industrial and domestic waste will be hauled to shore for disposal at specialized waste disposal facilities.
Tulpar-1 will be the third exploration well CMOC drills in the Pearls block with a purpose to explore for oil and gas in the middle Jurassic reservoirs.
Representatives of state authorities, veterans of the oil and gas industry, representatives of the local community and regional NGOs attended the public hearing, which was conducted in an atmosphere of open dialogue.
CMOC which has created 62 new employment positions for Kazakhstani staff in Aktau during the last two years, also presented an overview of its social investments and increasing Local Content programme.

Caspi Meruerty Operating Company B.V. (CMOC) is the joint operator of the Pearls Production Sharing Agreement, which was signed on 14 December 2005 between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shell EP Offshore Ventures Ltd (55%), KazMunayTeniz JSC (25%) and Oman Pearls Company Ltd (20%) as a consortium of subsoil users.
CMOC was established on 08 January 2007 in the Netherlands. CMOC shareholders are KazMunayTeniz JSC (40%), Shell EP Offshore Ventures Ltd (40%) and Oman Pearls Company Ltd (20%). In April 2007, CMOC registered a branch office in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
KazMunayTeniz JSC was established on 14 March 2003 as a 100% affiliate of KazMunayGas JSC. Shell EP Offshore Ventures Ltd is a member of the Shell Group of Companies. Oman Pearls Company Ltd is registered under the laws of the United Kingdom on 02 November 2005 as a 100% affiliate of the Oman Oil Company in the Sultanate of Oman.
