JSC OOC «KazMunayTeniz» celebrated its 5th anniversary in the vast expanses of the country. The world consumes around 87 million barrels of oil per day with the demand for it growing. Over the last 20 years countries have consumed more oil than produced. As onshore hydrocarbon reserves are running out the humanity is approaching to the sea depths under the floor of which there are significant reserves of oil. And the Caspian Sea is not an exception.

By KZ President?s instruction JSC OOC «KazMunayTeniz» was established in March 2003 to implement State-run Program for the development of the Kazakhstani sector of the Caspian sea. KazMunayTeniz is a 100% subsidiary of JSC NC «KazMunayGas». Its major objective is to execute contractor?s functions under subsoil use contracts and to increase oil and gas resources.

At the first anniversary KazMunayTeniz is enjoying notable results: 5 exploration wells were drilled, one of which located in Pearls area showed the presence of oil. There were some doubts but the result exceeded all expectations. Nurlybek Imanbayev, First Deputy General Director of this project, says: «We are thankful to God and those who worked for this project and proved that oil in this part of the Caspian Sea is available»…

Askar Balzhanov (EP KMG President), one of KMT founders, is looking back:

— There were only four of us, one room for everyone… That time we could not find a table for our General Director. Then we found, carried and placed… Frankly speaking I had doubts: Kazakhstan had never performed offshore exploration operations. We were seized with disturbing expectations and confusion: tremendous scope of work — and no experience! But as you see we managed…

Today KMT has a half dozen of projects which merit special attention among big international oil companies. They are «Tub — Karagan», «Atash», «Kurmangazy», «Zhambai»….

Uzakbai Karabakin, KazMunayGas President, covering successful results of KazMunayTeniz within the first five years stated that the company justified hopes owing to «true professionals» it had. Then he laid special emphasis on the company?s social mission «the mission that enables to combine harmonically business and social interests, thereby solving the most important social problems».

KMT invested a considerable amount of its funds into — the construction of the kindergarten in Kuryl village and International school in Aktau; installation of pipelines in Kyzylozen and other projects. Besides KazMunayTeniz invests millions dollars into national personnel training — their studies in leading oil universities and on-the-job training in international companies.

Yermek Marabayev, KMT General Director, said: «Our company is ambitious…… This year we are drilling two exploration wells, in the nearest time it is expected to create two projects, establish one enterprise and construct new rigs under the jurisdiction of Kazakhstan…. In general we will do our best to justify our motto — «Kazakhstan offshore subsoil is the common property of the people!»…

Oilmen watched a short film devoted to the 5th anniversary of KazMunayTeniz — an 18-minute history of the company?s formation and results over the last 5 years. Years will pass but these shots will remain in biography of KMT — the first oil company of Kazakhstan which put out to the sea.
