As field development activities pick up pace in the Caspian Sea the demand for qualified local specialists increases each year. The solution of problem related to lack of personnel National Company «KazMunayGas» sees in training of young specialists — graduates of Kazakhstan and foreign universities.

Specialists' training for offshore oil production is one of hr policy priorities of NC «KazMunayGas». The third Kazakhstan conference on human resources management, held on November 8-9 in President Hotel «Rixos» and initiated by NC «KazMunayGas» and «Samruk» Holding, was devoted to the solution of such problems.

The company developed a relative program which envisages Kazakhstan personnel training for offshore oil operations. The important component of this program is work placement of Kazakhstan oilmen in international oil and gas and engineering companies.

KMG subsidiary — JSC OOC «KazMunayTeniz» (KMT) with participation of Univation consultants (Robert Gordon University, Scotland) made preliminary estimation of quantitative and qualitative specialists, who will be required in the period of implementation of projects on exploration and development of fields on the shelf of the Caspian Sea. According to experts' estimates in the next 5-10 years KMT demand for engineering and technical personnel will constitute about 600.

Furthermore, talks have been made with some major international oil and gas and engineering companies which expressed their readiness to accept young Kazakhstan specialists in their offices and at industrial facilities all over the world. KMT trainees are currently undergoing individual training programs in Italy, France, USA, UAE and Singapore.

In the near future several groups of KMT will be sent for training and work placement to «Keppel» (Singapore), «KBR» (Great Britain), «Shell» representative offices in Holland and Oman, «WorleyParsons» (Australia) and other oil and gas and service companies. 10 engineers will be trained under master's program «KazFraMunay» (France).

On average work placement lasts from 2 till 4 years. In this period young specialists obtain practical skills on different positions, extend theoretical knowledge, master methods of conducting business by foreign companies. Provided that young specialists have successful work placement they will work for KMT or its subsidiaries. In this case engineers-trainees are obliged to work off on the proposed position at least 5 years.

An individual work placement and training program is developed for each young specialist. During the whole period mentors of engineers-trainees, appointed among experienced KMT specialists, supervise their training process and consult young colleagues on professional issues.

Candidates for work placement programs are selected among a great number of applicants. Primary requirements for candidates: diploma of higher education ( technical background), good English with compulsory spoken and written skills, GPA no less than 4,5 on the scale between 1 and 5, preferably work experience in oil and gas industry, readiness to go beyond Kazakhstan for a long term.

Besides KMT actively cooperates with Kazakhstan and foreign universities, specialized in training specialists for oil and gas industry, and participates in career fairs. It is very important to search and select candidates among graduates of «Bolashak» program.

This year the competition winners are young specialists which graduated from Kazakh National Technical University, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas, Aktau State University named after Yessenov, Stambul Technical University, Aberdeen University, State University named after Korkyt-Ata, Kazakhstan Academy of Transport and Communications and other Kazakhstan, CIS and foreign universities.

In the near term up to 250 young specialists are to be trained under this program.
